Digital Technology

We are living in the future. Advances in the realms of technology are evolving at a rapid pace with no signs of slowing down. We believe it is our duty to ensure girls are prepared for their future and are equipped to cope with whatever change may bring.

In digital technology girls learn to make informed judgments about how to use technology to its best effect and to be aware of its implications for home, school and work, now and in the future. Pupils develop an understanding that the skills they acquire are transferrable across the software they use and throughout the curriculum. Emphasis is placed on appropriate use of technology and behaviour online.

Creativity is a driving force. Our hope is that pupils will not only be consumers of technology but also become creators of it; using technology to find, explore, analyse, exchange and present information responsively, creatively and with discrimination.

To this end, the pupils are exposed to several different technologies. Programming, an integral part of the digital technology curriculum, is introduced in Year 1 using Bee Bots and progresses in the upper years to learning to write programs using Scratch and Logo language and then to programming VEX robots in Year 6. As well as this, pupils are taught to make films, CAD 3D designs, build collaboratively in Minecraft, create Stop Animations and to design posters and presentations – carefully considering format and layout as well as content.
