Music

Music is a joyful part of life at St Christopher’s, and every girl is encouraged to participate, perform and develop a lifelong love of music.

Through classroom lessons, choirs, ensembles and performances, girls explore singing, rhythm, instrumental playing, composition and listening. They learn how to perform with confidence, work as part of an ensemble and express themselves creatively through music.

We are a singing school and celebrate the happiness, confidence and sense of community that singing together brings. Every class enjoys weekly singing lessons and choir rehearsals, and every girl belongs to one of our choirs: Little Voices, Middle School Choir or Upper School Choir.

Music making extends far beyond the classroom. Girls can take part in a range of ensembles, including Chamber Choir, Orchestra, String Groups, Wind Band and Guitar Group, giving them regular opportunities to rehearse and perform together.

For those wishing to develop their skills further, we offer individual instrumental and singing lessons with a team of experienced professional musicians. Lessons are available in a wide range of instruments, including piano, violin, cello, guitar, flute, clarinet, saxophone and voice, and pupils have the opportunity to take ABRSM examinations throughout the year.

Whether performing in an assembly, school production, concert or informal recital, every girl is encouraged to share her music with confidence and pride.
